BLOW MOLD AND ROTO MOLD WATER TANKS
If you are looking to buy a new water tank, here is what you need to know about the two primary options available in the market.
- Blow-Mold Water Tanks
- Roto-Mold Water Tanks
Before selecting any water tank in the market for your desired application, it is important to understand manufacturing process for both types of water tanks. Manufacturing process directly corelates with quality and life of water tank.
BLOW MOLD WATER TANKS
Blow‑molding (Blow Mold) water tanks are manufactured by blowing air into a preformed heated baloon (called a parison) inside a two-part mold. The result is a seamless, one-piece tank that’s lightweight and strong. Blow molding is a technique which allows manufacturing of tanks with consistent wall thickness and in multiple layers. These tanks are available in 3 layers, 4 layers, 5 layers and 7 layers (Also called plies). Blow molding process is a fast and cost effective method for manufacturing water tanks. Following video is demonstrating blow molding process in an easiest way for further understanding.
ROTO MOLD WATER TANKS
Rotational molding (Roto‑Mold) involves placing powdered plastic into a hollow mold that’s heated and rotated biaxially. This ensures the plastic melts and evenly coats the interior side of the mold, producing a seamless product with uniform wall thickness and a smooth surface. Roto molding process takes more time to produce water tank. But tanks produced via roto molding process are more durable and exhibit much longer life than blow molded process.
Following Video will help you to understand the roto mold manufacturing process of water tanks.
Difference Between Blow Mold and Roto Mold Water Tanks
Blow Mold Water Tanks
- Blow mold tanks are cheaper but they have shorter life between 2 years and 10 years.
- Blow Mold tanks are manufactured in 3 layers, 4 layers and 6 layers.
- Blow mold tanks always comes in white color. Sizes greater than 2000L are not available in Pakistan.
Tanks of sizes 300L, 400L, 500L 600L, 800L,1000L, 1100L, 1200L,1500L and 2000L, are available.
Blow mold water tanks are only available in Vertical shape. Therefore, both size and shape of tanks are limited.
Roto Mold Water Tanks
- Roto mold water tanks are expensive but they have longer life between 10 years and 25 years.
- Roto mold water tanks are manufactured in 2 layers and 3 layers.
- Roto mold tanks come in white, blue, black and green color.
- Tanks of sizes 300L, 400L, 500L 600L, 750L, 800L, 1000L, 1200L, 1500L, 2000L, 4000L, 6000L, 10,000L, 20,000L are available.
- Vertical shape, horizontal capsule shape, chorus shape, and loft tanks are all possible with roto molding process.
Which Tank You Should Choose?
Blow-molded white tanks may look attractive due to their design and white color and affordable, but they compromise quality, durability and performance. Therefore, if you are looking for cheaper solution with moderate life, then BLOW mold tank will be the first option.
On the other hand, If you can afford an expensive tank with high quality and longer life, then ROTO mold water tank is the best option. Roto-molded tanks are a smarter long-term investment.
On the top, Roto-Molded tank with built-in insulation (InsuTank) can be the best choice if your budget allows you to buy. With insulated tank, you get your investment back in just three years and get the life time benefit.
